After qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1983 I worked for 11 years as a taxation accountant in London before taking the plunge and returning to university to do my PGCE in 1995. I started working for Chippenham College (later Wiltshire College) in 1997 and taught there for 20 years, working my way through (I think) six changes of AAT syllabus. I have taught all levels of AAT and particularly enjoy the Level 4 units, as well as the Level 3 management accounting and ethics units. I have taken early retirement from full-time teaching so that I can move to Cumbria to be closer to my family and will be working part-time for Accountancy Learning. I can get a bit over-excited about some AAT subjects and am always very disappointed that students never seem to share my enthusiasm for ratio analysis!
As well as family matters, I will be spending more time on my great interests of choral singing and painting and drawing. I also plan to get on my bike and start enjoying the lovely Lake District scenery, though perhaps not the hills and the rain quite so much.
