When I start my course, does it matter if I’m not working in finance or an accounting role?
There’s a short answer to this, and it is:
NO!
Although it will obviously be easier for you to study the AAT qualifications if you are getting some form of practical bookkeeping or accounting experience.
However, a large number of our students have enrolled because they are doing something completely different and want to get a job in accounting (want to start working in finance) or become a self-employed bookkeeper.
It is therefore not practical to get any relevant work experience until students have at least passed e.g. the AAT level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping.
The nature of the studies you will undertake with us, and in fact, most training providers will include lots and lots and lots and lots of practice bookkeeping and accounting activities.
We will show you what to do and how to do it, explain what to do and how to do it and then get you to do it. You will either be given the answers (included with your learning materials) or your work (e.g. Progress Tests and Practice Assessments) will be marked by your tutor.
You will effectively undertake a finance role as part of your studies.
So, no, it doesn’t really matter and we wouldn’t really expect it. If you can get some relevant work experience, it is a bonus!
