Self-Study EXTRA – Is it right for you?
When considering our AAT courses and choosing between the different packages, it’s important to understand what you are paying for, and more importantly which package is going to suit YOU best.
The Self-Study EXTRA package is a package with Accountancy Learning that allows you to study the AAT on your own without the help of a tutor. It is as simple as that! And a common question we tend to be asked is “what do I get if I decide to enrol on the Self-Study EXTRA package?” – well, here at Accountancy learning we don’t simply want to hand you over the course materials and that’s it. Done.
You actually get a lot for your course fee (much more than you might think!), so here are a few reasons why you should consider the Basic (self-study) package.
The Self-Study EXTRA package is a package with Accountancy Learning that allows you to study the AAT on your own without the help of a tutor. It is as simple as that! But why should you consider the Self-Study EXTRA package? Here are a few reasons why the Self-Study EXTRA package would be right for you:
- Access to Accountancy Learning’s online course Materials
Not a lot of people understand HOW you study as a self-study student, so we thought we’d give you a better understanding of how it all works!
When you enrol on the Self-Study EXTRA package, you will be given your materials to work your way through. Unlike the tutor-supported package though, you will also be provided with all the answers for your Progress Tests and Practice Assessments.
This will enable you to self-mark your work so that you can see how well you’re doing and identify areas where further revision is needed – however, it can be tempting to have a look at the answers when you’re working through your Practice Assessments (mock exams), so it’s down to you to resist the urge to cheat… besides, you won’t be fooling anyone but yourself!
ALL our online materials have been developed and moderated by our own expert and highly qualified tutors from first-hand experience and these have been tried and tested over the years (our tutors know exactly which topics students struggle with!)
- Exclusive access to our student Facebook Page
When you enrol with us, we will give you exclusive access to our Student Facebook group. In this group you’ll get active support from other students who are also studying our AAT qualifications, as well as AAT updates, tutor tutorial videos to help with common study topics and of course fun and motivational content – so you aren’t completely alone!
- You’re OUR Student
This is really important for you to understand – because you are our student and we want you to succeed, we make sure that you are looked after from day 1.
Please remember that just because we can’t help you with study-related questions, we are here to help with any other questions that you have about your course, such as guidance about your exams and AAT membership!

When you enrol, you will be given an Individual Learning Plan (also known as an ILP) – these help you to create your own targets and dates to aim towards. For example, you can add on your ILP the date you wish to sit your first exam. These can be amended to your own needs, so you are completely in control of your studies.
- Introductory phone call to get you started
A lot of our self-study students are very pleasantly surprised when we give them their introductory call. This call enables us to check how you’re getting along and to see how you’re enjoying working through our learning materials. It also gives us an opportunity to answer any questions you might have. Not only will we do this, but we’ll also send you regular emails with content related to you and your studies.
- Cost effective
Our Self-Study EXTRA package is the most cost-effective package that we have. Not only is it cost-effective, but for most of our courses, we also have interest-free payment plan options available to help you spread the cost!
- Introductory phone call to get you started
A lot of people find that they are unsure of the support they might need when looking to enrol, which is why we have the option for you to upgrade to the tutor-supported package later on, if you feel you need it – we understand that you probably won’t know straight away which is why we have made this option available to you!
- Regular email updates including our monthly e-newsletter
Every month we will send you our E-Newsletter, which contains AAT updates, important information about your studies and of course motivational content such as interesting articles, competitions and much more! We will also communicate with you via email to remind you about your AAT registration and how to do it, study tips, motivational blogs and more.

There are very few training providers out there who offer self-study as an option for AAT. For those that do, they don’t offer as much with this package, therefore, you are getting a lot for your money with Accountancy Learning.
