MAAT qualified, I studied AAT via classroom and distance learning so I can guide from many perspectives and have many tips to share. I am also currently a student myself studying CIMA so I can fully relate to the constant juggle of study vs life!
Myself – I started my accounting career in London working as a purchase ledger clerk for a foreign exchange company. I soon found I had a love for finance, progressing quickly to the role of a Management Accountant using the knowledge gained from the AAT. 7 years on, I moved to Chamonix in France where I found my MAAT status useful in finding accounting work in the Alps (working for a tour operator and in accounts practice) while being able to hit the slopes, which is great as I am a keen skier.
After a few years in the snow I decided it was time to move back to the UK to spend time with my family – I’m a twin and we’re very close, so it was hard living far away! Moving back to my hometown in Somerset I found work within MARS as a Finance Supply Co-Pilot producing management accounting manufacturing reports and analysis along with being a key member of the factory management team. I loved my role and along with new knowledge gleamed from my CIMA studies, I always referred to my AAT knowledge so I know how important it is to receive a good solid start in your learning journey as you’ll always use it!
Having met my finance who is born and bred Devon we chose to relocate, finding adventure on our doorstep in the form of trail running, cycling and exploring the moors. I believe a strong mind is accompanied with a strong healthy body so it’s great to see there is so much to explore in Devon.
As you can tell I am very passionate about where the AAT can take a student and I am very keen to share real life working knowledge to provide a solid foundation to those who aspire to work within finance with a well-earned highly valued qualification on their CV.
