Want to join our AWARD WINNING TEAM at Accountancy Learning?

TUTOR TEAM:

We currently have a vacancy within our AAT Tutor team in Exeter:

Ideally this would be full time role and is most relevant for someone who is a qualified AAT (or ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with some practical experience under their belt. However we have a strong team and would consider someone full time or part time who could become part of it, someone with relevant qualifications, experience and most importantly – a positive attitude!  Life is easier if we find someone ready to hit the ground running, but we are happy to ‘grow our own’. We have recently recruited an intern for our Plymouth venue, who has recently graduated in Accounts and Finance.

The proposed role would include providing tutor support for a personal tutor group of apprentices.

We don’t do formal “stand up and teach” lessons as our emphasis is on facilitating and supporting individual studies.
The successful candidate would be expected to cover all AAT subjects as their apprentices could be studying all subjects. However, for those candidates with limited experience, we would start you with a cohort of Level 2 and Level 3 learners. A typical week would involve attending one or two “drop in” classes to provide one to one tutor support, marking progress tests and practice assessments, providing feedback by email or phone, answering study queries (phone or email) and monitoring your apprentices progress – and nagging them! It will also involve some travel to see apprentices at their employers premises to perform progress reviews. We are delivering the new Apprenticeship Standards which involve a much closer involvement with the practical experience that apprentices are obtaining at work.

We will provide introductory teacher training where required e.g.  the Level 3 BTEC in Education & Training and expect all tutors to maintain CPD and membership of their professional body.

Where you take on learners at Level 2, we would expect you to support them all the way through to their completion of Level 4. There is therefore a huge element of job satisfaction in the role as you can see that your support is helping create successful and rewarding careers. Our tutors become very protective of their students!

The role will also involve supporting a small cohort of distance learning students and can include contributing to our course writing and course development efforts. Nothing stands still and we need to continue to improve what we do and learn from others within and outside the organisation. It can therefore be a very exciting and enjoyable role – and includes times of being really busy – e.g. when students send you practice assessments to mark the day before their exam! It also keeps you technically up-to-date and constantly challenged to find different and more effective ways of explaining complicated concepts to students as well as the simple ones!

The salary will vary from £18,000 to £28,000 and will depend on your qualifications and experience.

It is a career and a vocation – not a “job”. As well as being technically demanding, you need to “care”. We have been acting for some of our clients since 1984 and many of our past students are now partners and managers – and therefore clients. We like to feel that we are part of the fabric of the accountancy profession in the South West. We were really chuffed to achieve the AAT Champion Award in both 2017 and 2018 – and want to continue winning awards that recognise the hard work we all put into what we do. In 2017, Neil (he is one of our tutors) won the AAT Lifetime Achievement Award and Pete won the AAT Distance Learner of the Year Award (he became one of our tutors!)

If you are interested in this position, please send an email with a CV to Prue at prue@accountancylearning.co.uk or Simon at simon@accountancylearning.co.uk

Alternatively, if you would just like to chat through what the role involves, drop us an email or phone us on 01392 435349. Prue and Simon work silly hours and so you will probably catch them if you call in the evening!
